Connagill

We built a new Trident based design 132kV OHL to accommodate the generation capacity of the Strathy North Wind Farm in North East Sutherland.

With a route length of 12 km, between the 132kV substation at Dallangwell to the 275kV Connagill substation, the line consists of 139 H-poles strung with AAAC UPAS conductor and fibre optic carrier, and required the installation of 272 stays.

The Sutherland environment and landscape presented challenges such as nesting birds and accessibility issues for transporting poles by vehicle. Forward planning meant that measures were taken to avoid any disturbance of nesting birds and a helicopter was engaged to transport poles and other materials to the required locations.

Having been in planning for over two years prior to start up, construction of the line was completed in around nine months.
